Meeting with the representative of Lufthansa

On 28th July, 2010 the meeting with the representative of Lufthansa company Mr. J. Škroud was taking place during which the mutual cooperation was discussed. Such a cooperation should focus on carrying out some projects of the Chamber in Ghana and Nigeria.

Working meeting with the General director of the Association of small and medium-size enterprises

On 15th July 2010 the working meeting of the Chamber´s representatives and the General directorr of the Association of small and medium-size enterprises Ms E. Svobodová, MBA was taking place during which the possibilities of mutual cooperation between both parties were discussed.

Meeting with H.E. the new Ghanaian Ambassador

On 13th July 2010 the meeting with the new Ghanaian Ambassador H.E. Mr. V. E. Smith was taking place during which the possibilities of mutual cooperation and the preparatory works of the Czech-Ghanaian business Forum were discussed. This Business Forum should take place in Prague at the end of 2010 and in Accra in 2011.

Change of the name of the Chamber

On 10th July 2010 the new name of our Chamber i.e. Mixed Chamber of Commerce Czech Republic-sub-Saharan Africa was inscribed into the Commercial register with the Municipal Court of Prague. The new name corresponds more with the real activity of the Chamber and its territorial scope. The original name i.e. Czech-Equatorial Guinea-Gabon-Senegal-Guinean Mixed Chamber of Commerce remains valid and will be applied for one of the Chamber´s territorial sections.

Negotiation with the representative of the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic

On 2nd July, 2010 Mr. P. Talafús, the deputy director of the dept. for foreign relations of the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic visited our Chamber. During the discussion the results of the Economic days of the Republic of Congo in the Czech Republic were analyzed and both parties concluded that it was a very successful project. Also in the future both Chambers will continue in joint co-operation as e.g. in organising the Business Forum for entrepreneurs from Ghana and from the Czech Republic.

Visit of the important Nigerian businessman in the Chamber

In the period from 2nd to 4th July, 2010 an important Nigerian businessman who is also the member of our Chamber, visited us and discussed with the Chamber various projects which are in interest of both parties. During his visit in the Czech Republic he had discussions also with the producer and exporter of water treatment agents and with the producer of agricultural tractors. In addition to it also other projects were discussed as e.g. municipal waste management, giant oil reservoirs and distribution facilities, supply of aircrafts, supplies of mobile water treatment equipment.

Participation in consultations with the Czech Commercial and Economic Counsellors

On 30th June 2010 the representatives of our Chamber participated in the consultations with the Czech Commercial and economic Counsellors which took place in the hotel Diplomat in Prague. The representatives of the Chamber had discussions with many Czech diplomats from countries of sub-Saharan Africa as e.g. Ethiopia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Congo, South Africa and other countries in which the diplomats cover also other countries of Chamber´s interest as e.g. Senegal, and Mauritania (Czech Embassy in Rabat) and Mali (Czech Embassy in Alger). The present projects were discussed and we exchanged views about other enquiries from all fields.

The visit of the Chargé d´Affaires of the Republic of Sierra Leone

On 25th June 2010 the Chargé d´Affaires of the Republic Sierra Leone who is also in charge of the Czech Republic but having an office in Moscow Mr. Ibrahim Kondoh accompanied by the future honorary consul of Sierra Leone in the Czech Republic Mr. Pařík and the former Czech diplomat Mr. Kopecký paid a visit at the Chamber. The questions which were mentioned by the Chargé d´Affaires during the Round Table with diplomats from countries of sub-Saharan Africa organized by the Czech Embassy in Vienna in 2009 were discussed. The Chamber, diplomatic representation of Sierra Leone and the future honorary consul agreed to intensify mutual contacts and organize mutual social events, mainly after the date when the honorary consul will be officially appointed .

Negotiation with the representative of the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic

Economic days of the Republic Congo in Prague

 

In the first week of May 2010 the "Economic days of the Republic of Congo" were taking place in Prague. They have been organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) and the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the our Mixed Chamber of Commerce Czech Republic - sub-Saharan Africa. 13 participants from Congo from various economy branches participated in this event and they met and negotiated with more than 20 Czech entrepreneurs. The Congolese delegation was headed by the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Point-Noire. The culmination of this event was the seminar on 6th May 2010 in the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic. All participants expressed their satisfaction with its organization and program.

The visit of the company Wisconsin Engineering in Prostějov

On 20th May 2010 the representative of the management of the Chamber paid the technical and commercial visit in the company Wisconsin Engineering in Prostějov, where he discussed with the management of the company the possibilities of mutual co-operation. During his visit he also used the opportunity to make acquaintance with the production program of small agricultural machines.

 

Interview of the president of the Chamber for the Press Agency APA

The international Press Agency APA published on 7th April 2010 an interview, in which the president of the Chamber answered many questions of the Agency´s redactor concerning the foundation of the Chamber, its activities as well as of its plans for the future.

The Regular General Assembly of the Chamber

On 31st March, 2010 the Regular General Assembly of the Chamber has taken place. The absolute majority, guests and the public notary were present. The program included the Report about the activities of the Chamber during the past period and the plan of activities for 2010. At the same time the documents concerning the administrative changes in the Chamber and the members of the new Supervisory Board were adopted.

The representatives of the Chamber´s management participated in the Ghanaian reception.

On base of the invitation of the Ghanaian Embassy the representatives of the Chamber´s management participated in the ceremonial reception at the occasion of the Ghana national holiday - celebration of the Independence Day. The presence in the reception was used for informal discussions with Ghanaian partners and partners from other African countries.

The working visit of the Secretary of the Czech-Angolan Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber

On 3rd March, 2010 the Chamber was visited by the Secretary of the Czech – Angolan Chamber of Commerce and the possibilities of mutual cooperation were discussed. The Secretary informed our Chamber about the successful participation of his Chamber in the International Fair in Louanda where the Czech agricultural equipment for small farmers was exhibited. It is anticipated that the presentation of the small agricultural technique from the Czech Republic may result into an interesting contract. Our Chamber informed the Secretary of the Czech-Angolan Chamber of Commerce about its actions during the last two years. It was agreed that both Chambers will inform each other about their actions.

The courtesy call of the Ambassador of the Ivory Coast at our Chamber

On 25th February 2010 the Ambassador of the Ivory Coast and the Commercial counselor of the Embassy of the Ivory Coast from their registered place in Berlin visited our Chamber. The Embassy of the Ivory Coast includes also the Czech Republic in its sphere of authority. The Ambassador mentioned various possibilities for the increase of the volume of mutual trade. Namely the agricultural products and minerals should be of Czech interest. The Ambassador expressed his wish that the Czech companies invest into the tourism sector especially into the construction of hotels. Other possibilities for the Czech companies and investors are in the field of telecommunications, in the construction and other sectors of the economy. Both parties stated that it would be useful to sign the cooperation agreement between the Chambers of Commerce in both countries as soon as possible.

The courtesy call of the Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea at our ChamberOn 25th February 2010 the Ambassador of the Equatorial Guinea with his First Secretary from

the Embassy´s registered place in Berlin visited our Chamber. The Embassy of Equatorial Guinea in Berlin includes also the Czech Republic in its sphere of authority. During its visit the Ambassador informed about the presentation of his credentials to the president of the Republic. In addition to it also the questions of the accelerated signature of the agreement on cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce of both countries and the possibilities of realization of some supplies of Equatorial Guinea´s interest from the Czech Republic were discussed. Moreover the Equatorial Guinea is also interested in employing Czech engineers and experts for the growing local industry.

The working visit of the president of the Czech – Ivory Coast Chamber of Commerce at our Chamber

On 23rd February 2010 the working visit of the president of the Czech-Ivory Coast Chamber of Commerce and his representative was taking place. During the visit the questions of the work of both Chambers and the possibilities of mutual cooperation were discussed.

Informative meeting with the president of the Congolese association FAMICO in the Czech Republic

On 4th February 2010 the representative of the Chamber´s management met the president of the Congolese association in the Czech Republic “FAMICO” on informative meeting. During the meeting the Chamber´s representative introduced the Chamber to the president and informed him about its activities. On the other side also FAMICO´s activities were mentioned. FAMICO has 64 members who are Congolese citizens living in the Czech Republic. The President informed also about several projects, which the association plans to execute in 2010 as e.g. the supplies of the equipment for the school in Brazzaville, equipment and material for the hospital etc.

The working visit of the Chargé d´Affaires of the Republic of Congo in the Chamber

On 27th January 2010 the Chamber was visited by the Chargé d´Affaires of the Republic of Congo in Berlin with his assistant. They informed the direction of the Chamber about the program of the mutual cooperation which is being prepared for 2010. The most important event this year will be the Economical days of the Republic of Congo in the first half of May. It is expected that the numerous delegation of Congolese businessmen and two Congolese ministers will participate in this event.

Semi-centennial of diplomatic relations between Ghana and Czechoslovakia

On December 10th, 2009 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic has arranged for a glass of wine on the occasion of semi-centennial of diplomatic relations between Ghana and former Czechoslovakia and the management of our Chamber was invited too. We had the opportunity to make new contacts with the citizens of the Ghanaian community and other countries of Sub-saharan Africa living in the Czech Republic.

Presentation for the Association of the Friends of Ethiopia

Upon the request of the management of the Association of the Friends of Ethiopia the representative of our Chamber held a lecture themed "The Commercial Relations between the Czech Republic and Ethiopia" for the members of the Association on December 9th, 2009. The follow-up discussion was very inspiring for many participants and it was agreed that the Chamber will assist in searching contacts for the Czech subjects interested in trade with Ethiopia.

Presentation of the Chamber at the International Chamber of Commerce

On December 12th, 2009 the management of the Chamber took part in a workshop regarding the trade with Nigeria at the International Chamber of Commerce and got space for its power-point presentation. The representatives of the Chamber took part in the discussion too.Lecture at the University of Economics

The British economist Prof. Paul Collier from the University of Oxford lectured for 200 audience on the theme "Africa - new challenges and opportunities for the Development Cooperation" at the University of Economics in Prague on November 26th, 2009. The representative of our Chamber has taken part in the lecture as one of the Czech debaters.

The visit of the future Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Ghana

The future Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Ghana visited our Chamber on November 25th, 2009 in order to discuss the possibilities of cooperation between the Chamber and the Czech Embassy and the future activities of the Chamber in Ghana.Meeting of the organizations and associations concerned with the relations with the African countries

The representative of the Chamber took part in an extraordinary meeting of the organizations, associations and alliances concerned with the relations with the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa on November 22nd, 2009. During the meeting our Chamber was presented as well as its activities and plans for the future.

Round table and negotiations with the delegation of the Niger Delta Development Commission

On November 19th, 2009 the Ministry of Industry and Trade arranged for a round table with 7 members of the delegation of the Niger Delta Development Commission, lead by its general manager Mr. Chibuzor Ugwoha. Two members of our management took part in the negotiations too and presented the Chamber and informed of its prepared projects in the territory of Niger Delta.

Club meeting of the International Chamber of Commerce

On November 10th, 2009 the Czech branch of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has arranged for a club meeting for its members and guests themed "Export incentives - financing". The representative of the Chamber's management has took part in the meeting, joined the discussion and informed of the activities of the Chamber.

The workshop of the Chamber of Commerce Switzerland - Czech Republic on doing business in Africa

On November 4th, 2009 the representatives of the Chamber's management took part in the workshop themed "Quickly break the ices of your doing business in Africa" organized by the Chamber of Commerce Switzerland - Czech Republic. The participating speakers were Chargé d´Affaires of the Ghanaian Embassy Mr. Mohammed Nurudeen Ismailia, Dr. iur. J. Effenberger, lawyer and expert working in Senegal and ing. Josef Novák, General Manager of VEBA, textilní závody a.s. The contents of the workshop has been a good contribution to the better understanding of business relations of the Czech Republic with the countries of the Sub-Saharan Africa.

General Meeting of the Association of the Friends of Africa

The representative of our Chamber took part in the General Meeting of the Association of the Friends of Africa as the member. The General Meeting took part on November 3rd, 2009. During the meeting we could make new contacts not only in the field of doing business with the African countries but particularly in the field of extending the cultural ties.

Visit of the Ambassador of Gambia at the Chamber

The Ambassador of Gambia visited our Chamber on October 29th, 2009. He has discussed with the representatives of the Chamber the current situation of signing of the Agreement on Cooperation between our Chamber and the Gambian Chamber of Trade and Industry including some administrative issues.

Workshop at the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade

The representatives of the Chamber have participated in the meeting of bank agents, businessmen concerned in the trade with the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa and representatives of specialized mixed chambers of commerce with the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. M. Hovorka. The intention of the meeting was to streamline the trade and terms of payment with the partners of the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa. The Ministry of Industry and Trade will elaborate a short review of recommendations for the Czech business community.

Meeting with the Minister of National Defense of Mali

Vice-president of the Chamber has met the Minister of National Defense of Mali Mr. Natié Pleah with his suite on October 15th 2009 and they have discussed the progress in the mutual business and economic relations between Mali and the Czech Republic. They have also talked about the role of the Chamber in realization of these efforts.

Round table with the representatives of Embassies of Sub-Saharan countries in Vienna

Our Chamber, in the cooperation with the Czech Embassy in Vienna and with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, has arranged for a discussion round table with the representatives of diplomatic offices of 11 countries of the Sub-Saharan Africa. The event took place in the premises of the Czech Embassy in Vienna on October 14th 2009. The participants from Africa have highly appreciated the unreserved discussion as well as the fact that such an event had been organized. The suggestions, conclusions and recommendations arisen from this meeting will be delivered to the relevant Czech authorities.

Visit of our Nigerian member in Prague

The significant Nigerian businessman and member of our Chamber, Mr. S. Saidu has arrived in the Czech Republic on September 29th and stayed until October 2nd 2009. Our Chamber has arranged for him for a number of meetings with suppliers in the field of illuminating engineering, structural elements for the housing construction, aircrafts and mobile water preparing plants. We believe that several contracts will be signed based on their negotiations.

Visit to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

On September 29th 2009 the members of the management of the Chamber visited the new Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. H. Kmoníček and they have informed him about the activities of the Chamber since it had been established and also about their plans until the end of 2009 and for the upcoming 2010. They have particularly mentioned the interest of the Czech business community in organizing the business mission to the selected countries of Sub-Saharan Africa. Deputy Minister has appreciated the work of the Chamber and assured of the interest of the Ministry to continue in cooperation with the Chamber.

The visit of the President of the Nigerian-Czech Business Council

We had a pleasure to welcome the delegation of the Nigerian-Czech Business Council (NCBC) lead by its President, Mr. O. Nzekwu. Members of the delegation representing two other companies were discussing some late and new enquiries, NCBC would like to attract the Czech companies to participate in the petroleum refinery exhibition and in the fair in Lagos in November 2010. NCBC is looking for a Czech partner interested in importing the used Skoda vehicles and Czech glass.

The Briefing of the Danish Ambassador in the residence of the Ambassadress of South Africa

During the business lunch held by the Ambassadress of South Africa in her residence on September 4th, 2009 the Danish Ambassador in the Czech Republic gave a briefing in respect of the initiative of the Danish Prime Minister, Mr. Lars Lekke Rasmussen regarding the final report of the African Commission. The African Commission was founded by the Danish government in 2008 and its members are significant African and European personalities. The main aim of the Commission is supporting the initiative of the African youth for the development of the continent. The final report of the Commission includes 5 basic initiatives that should achieve the intended aim. The representative of our Chamber attended the briefing and joined the discussion afterwards.

The visit of the honorary consul of the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) in our Chamber

The honorary consul of the Republic of Congo seating in Prague has made a courtesy call in our Chamber on August 26th, 2009. During his visit we had the opportunity to discuss various subjects of mutual cooperation. An interesting point would be organizing of the mission of a group of Czech businessmen to Congo (Brazzaville) in 2010.

Business meeting with the heads of the Department of Sub-Saharan Africa

The representative of our Chamber met with the heads of department of Sub-saharan Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 22nd, 2009. During the meeting we have exchanged information regarding our activities and plans for the future and discussed possible cooperation.

Consultation with the commercial banks and with EGAP

According to the conclusions of the working conference with the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade on July 9, 2009, our representative have during July and August 2009 consulted the possibilities of improving the system of payments between the Czech subjects and their partners in Sub-Saharan Africa with the commercial banks and with EGAP. The results of these consultations which were very inspiring will be delivered to the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade for further assessment.

Participation of the Chamber's management in the working conference with the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade

The working conference concerning results of the visit of Nigerian minister of Foreign Affairs to the Czech Republic was held on July 9th, 2009 and our management was participating in it too. Other participants were e.g. commercial counsellor in Abuja, representatives of significant Czech exporters to Nigeria and Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic.The conference was very constructive and inspiring. All participants have discussed various possibilities of improving business relations e.g. restoring of negotiations of bi-lateral mixed commissions, signing agreements on protection of investments, establishing correspondence contacts between Czech banks and Nigerian partners and creating the credit line between Czech and Nigerian banks. The deputy minister has confirmed his interest in holding such conferences on a regular basis.

Meeting with the commercial counsellors of the Czech Embassies

On July 2, 2009 our representatives attended the annual working consultations with the commercial counsellors of the most Czech Embassies in the Subsaharan countries. The counsellors have thus had an opportunity to become acquainted with the activities of the Chamber and the Chamber's management has received new motives for the Chamber's members as well as for other subjects of Czech business community.

Negotiating with the Ambassadoress of Namibia

The management of our chamber had the chance to meet H.E. Ambassadoress of Namibia with her suite on June 24th, 2009 and discuss the economic cooperation between the subjects of both countries. H.E. has informed of some projects of priority interest of Namibia. Part of her program was also a presentation for Czech subjects operating in the tourist traffic. Though a large number of Czech travel services have already included Namibia into their catalogues, there are still many possibilities open.

Meeting with the Ambassador of Algeria

On June 22nd, 2009, the Ministry of Industry and Trade together with the Confederation of the Czech Industry initiated the meeting with the Ambassador of Algeria with the aim to inform Czech businessmen of the business and investment opportunities in Algeria. Our representative attended the meeting in order to verify some terms for carrying on a geological research in the specific territory on border between Mali and Niger for one of our members.

Agreement on cooperation with the Ghanaian-Czech Economic Association

The negotiations about the Agreement on cooperation with the Ghanaian-Czech Economic Association were successfully finalized after signing the document by the president of our Chamber on June 22nd, 2009. The Agreement offers various opportunities of mutual cooperation e.g. meetings of businessmen, workshops, business missions, conferences etc. The Agreement was signed for the term of 5 years with the automatic 6-months renewal period.

Meeting of the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade with the representatives of mixed chambers of commerce

On June 16th, 2009 the Deputy Minister, M. Hovorka, have met the representatives of mixed chambers of commerce focused on the Subsaharan countries, together with the representatives of CzechTrade agency, Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic and the Czech Chamber of Commerce. Our chamber was one of seven chambers who have attended and discussed about the activities of individual chambers, possibilities of taking advantage of EDF by the Czech businessmen, possibility of Czech Republic's entering the African Development Bank, but also problems of financing the activities of chambers.

Business lunch with the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs

The deputy minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. M. Hovorka held a business lunch in honor of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria Federation, Mr. Ojo Maduekwe, on June 8th, 2009. The president of our Chamber was invited too and she has informed the concerned parties about the evolving cooperation with our Nigerian partners, especially with the Nigeria-Czech Business Council. In accordance with the signed bi-lateral agreement we keep on negotiating with the Council on various infrastructure projects in several Nigerian states.

Participation in the conference "Technology for local sustainable resources of energy under technically specific conditions"

Our representative took part in the conference held on May 28th, 2009 by the Business Platform for Foreign Development Cooperation, Glopolis agency and the Technology Centre of the Academy of Science. The conference had a strong attendance of about 50 Czech and foreign subjects, the panelists were among others the representatives of DG Development of the EU, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Czech Representation in Brussels, CDE (Centre for Development of Enterprise) and others.

Cooperation with CEVRE (Centre for Research of Developing Countries) at the University of Economics, Prague

On May 27th, 2009 the first consultative meeting with the representatives of the new Centre for Research of Developing Countries (CEVRE) attached to the Department of World Economy at the Faculty of International Relations. The aim of CEVRE is to provide support to the Czech subjects entering the developing countries' markets. We have discussed the possibilities of mutual cooperation and possible participation in the lectures for students.

Visit of the president of the Czech - Ivory Coast Mixed Chamber of Industry and Commerce

Upon the recommendation of the Department of non-European countries of the Ministry of Industry and Trade we had the pleasure to receive the president of the newly registered Czech - Ivory Coast Mixed Chamber of Industry and Commerce at our offices. We have exchanged the information about work of both chambers and have agreed on some terms of future mutual cooperation.

Eurochambres' 16th annual Congress in Prague

Within the first day of the Eurochambres' Congress held in Clarion hotel during May 14 - 15, 2009 one of the members of the management of our Chamber have attended the workshop organized by the Arbitration Court attached to the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic and Agricultural Chamber of the Czech Republic concerning the IT issues and protection of the websites. He has participated in the discussion regarding using and violating of the websites with the malicious intent. The information received during the workshop are available to our members.

Visit of the CEBRE Director from Brussels

On May 14, 2009 we had the pleasure to receive Mr. M. Kadera, Director of CEBRE in Brussels, in our offices. His visit was not only a social event but mainly a working meeting. Mr. Kadera has informed our management about the founders of CEBRE and the cooperation with the Czech subjects. We have also discussed the possibility of participating of our members and other Czech companies in various projects in Africa with the possible financial contribution from EU funds.

Participation in the workshop "First Czech eBusiness Meeting"

Within the European Week for SME the representatives of the Chamber have attended the First Czech eBusiness Meeting (20th eBSN Workshop) themed Inovation of Business Models Through ICT which took place on May 13, 2009 in the premises of the French Institute in Prague. The panelists of the workshop were the representatives of the Czech Ministry for Industry and Trade, DG for Enterprise and Industry and other lecturers and representatives of the companies from Belgium, Netherlands, Great Britain, France and other countries. We will gladly share the knowledge acquired at the workshop with our members.

AWEPA workshop in the premises of the Czech Parliament

Upon the invitation by the Foreign Commitee of the House of Parliament of the Czech Republic the management of our Chamber took part in the workshop held by the Association of European Parliamentarians for Africa (AWEPA) regarding the climatic changes, food supply and economic development of the African countries on April 8th, 2009. We have heard statements of the representatives of the Foreign Ministry of the Czech Republic and of the members of the African and European parliaments. The members of the management of our Chamber have participated in the informal discussions with the panelists after the official closure of the workshop.

Presentation of Gambia at the Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic and visit of the Gambian delegation at our Chamber

The Gambian delegation led by the Gambian Ambassador in Berlin arrived in Prague during 25th and 26th March to hold discussions with the Czech part. The other members of the delegation were representatives of Gambian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Employment, Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade Zones and Gambian Bureau of Tourism. The delegation have also visited our Chamber and presented Gambia at the Czech Chamber of Commerce. The results of the discussions held were incorporated into the Aide-Mémoire including fields of interest of the Gambian part concerning particularly investments.

Gathering of foreign and mixed chambers of commerce at the Czech Chamber of Commerce

On March 11th the Czech Chamber of Commerce arranged for a working gathering of the foreign and mixed chambers of commerce and our representatives took part in it too. The meeting was moderated by the Head of the Foreign Relations Department, Mr. Kočárek. The participants have discussed the current problems arising from the current economic crisis and the efforts of the Chamber of Commerce how to face the recession.

Meeting of the Board of the Chamber with attendance of the representative of the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic

The meeting of the Board of our Chamber took place on February 25, 2009 in our offices. The representative of the foreign section of the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic attended the meeting in accordance with the terms of the bilateral agreement between our Chamber and the Economic Chamber and he could closely acquaint with the problems and questions that our Chamber deals with daily. We have also discussed possible participating of our Chamber in the business forum organized by the Economic Chamber in May for the BusinessChambers association.

Visit of the representative of the Non-european countries section of the Ministry of Trade and Industry

The deputy of the Head of the Non-european countries section of the Ministry of Trade and Industry visited our Chambe on February 25, 2009 in order to discuss further mutual co-operation during the Czech presidency in the EU for the second half of 2009. He has informed us of some remarkable actions of the Ministry our Chamber could participate in.

Meeting the CEBRE Director in Brussels

PP Agency's Exporters' Club together with the Lobby magazine have arranged for a working breakfast on February 4, 2009 in Lobby Café on the theme of benefits of the Czech presidency in the EU Council to the Czech businessmen and of possibilities of receiving financial sources from Brussels. During the informal part of the action we have met Mr. Kadera, Director of CEBRE and we agreed on linking-up with CEBRE and exchange of important practical information for further work of the Chamber in Africa.

Co-operation with the Nigerian company

On January 30, 2009 we have met the new member of our Chamber coming from Nigeria. These are four Nigerian companies carrying business in the fields of:- construction works, prospecting and exploitation of water resources {well drilling, excavation, production of cement bricks and sale / lease of building machines},- telecommunication technologies, energetics and engineering services,- import, export and supply of agriculture and food products and drinks,- investment projects in oil, gas and energy industry.We have received information about two projects {construction and water service} that will be read up by the members of our Chamber.

Promotion of the Chamber on the occasion of the Czech Hummer H2 team in the car race Budapest – Bamako

The Chamber's logo has appeared on one of the Hummer H2 cars racing from Budapest to Bamako in the Great African Run race that started on January 17, 2009. After 3500 km tour on the European highways and more than 5500 km through the North Africa the race finished in Bamako on January 31, 2009.

Lecture on living and labour conditions in Equatorial Guinea

Upon the request of the export department of a company from Pardubice who will install systems for the control of air traffic in 4 airports in Equatorial Guinea, the representatives of our Chamber gave the lecture on living and labour conditions in Equatorial Guinea to the employees of the company in Pardubice on December 16, 2008.

Meeting with the commercial counsellor and consul of Sudan

On 25th November 2008 our representatives met the commercial counsellor and consul of Sudan seating in Vienna. The meeting took place in the Confederation of Industry and we had the pleasure to meet the new consul of Sudan in the Czech Republic, who would soon officially open his office in Prague. The Sudanese guest made the participants of the meeting acquainted with the present state of political solution of relations with the south of the country and with the state of economy including its priorities. He stressed the importance of agricultural projects as well as the investments to various fields with the possibilities of interesting incentives. The huge gains for the country's economy are in the rich reserves of oil. Many foreign companies incl. Naftové doly Hodonín partake in the research and exploitation of oil in Sudan. He has also appreciated the presence of the representatives of the Chamber and expressed his desire for close cooperation with the new Commercial Chamber Czech - Subsaharan Africa.

Meeting with Business Platform for Foreign Development Cooperation in cooperation with the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic

On 19th November 2008 the representatives of our Chamber participated in the meeting organized by the Business Platform and Confederation of Industry and themed "Possibilities of supporting business partners in the countries of Africa, Carribean and Pacific (ACP)". The executive director of the Platform informed about the organisation structure and tasks of institutions like EIN (European Institutional Network) and CDE (Centre pour le Développement de l´Entreprise) and about opportunities for the Czech businessmen and investors. The Platform has become the representative of CDE in the Czech Republic.

Meeting of the representatives of the Mixed Chambers of Commerce at the Foreign Ministry

Our delegation took part in the meeting of representatives of various foreign Chambers of Commerce held by the Department of Bi-lateral Relations of the Foreign Ministry on 18th November 2008. The meeting was very interesting and inspiring.

Negotiations with the representative of the South Africa Embassy in Prague

The representatives of our Chamber visited the embassy of SA on 12th November 2008 in order to exchange the experience with the work of the South Africa - Czech Chamber of Commerce. We have informed the representatives of the embassy of some technical issues of the work of our Chamber which could be used for revival of work of the SA - Czech Chamber. We have agreed that there is no competition between both Chambers, on the contrary we see many possibilities for a mutual cooperation.

General agreement on cooperation with the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic

The General agreement on cooperation was signed on 5th November 2008 between our Chamber and the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic by the presidents of both institutions. The Agreement is setting up new conditions for the activities of our Chamber; in connection with the extension of our activities to the whole Subsaharan Africa we will be able to provide the new contacts and business opportunities to the Economic Chamber and its members but also use the long-term experience and contacts of the Economic Chamber in the countries of our interest. We would be also able to use the various possibilities regarding organisating of foreign business missions to the countries of interest. The results of mutual cooperation will be evaluated on a regular basis.

H.E. Ambassador of Senegal visited our Chamber

On the occassion of his short visit in Prague, where he delivered letters of credence to the president of our Republic and negotiated with the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, our Chamber had the pleasure to receive H.E. Ambassador of Senegal with his suite on 18th October 2008 in our premises. The president of the Chamber informed the valued guest about our activities and future plans. We consider the progress of relations with our contacts in Senegal as our priority. The management of the Chamber also informed H.E. Ambassador about the workshop in the Ministry of Industry and Trade about Africa held on 14 October and about our efforts regarding re-establishing of the embassy of the Czech Republic in Dakar or at least establishing the office of CzechTrade agency there.

Visit of the Ambassador of Guinea

On 17th October 2008 we could greet the Ambassador of Guinea and his suite. It was the first visit of H.E. Ambassador in Prague, on the occasion of delivering his letters of credence to the Czech president. During his stay in Prague he met some other representatives in the Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Industry and Trade. In the meeting in our Chamber he mentioned his attendance at our round table in Berlin in June and informed about the changes in the Guinean government and in his bureau. The representatives of our Chamber informed about the organization changes and extension of its scope of activities to the whole territory of Subsaharan Africa. The Ambassador confirmed that the list of infrastructure projects of the Guinean government we received in the middle of this year is still valid and the investors are welcomed. He has also spoken for re-establishing of the embassy of the Czech Republic in Conakry.

Workshop at the Ministry of Trade and Industry

In cooperation with our Chamber the Ministry of Trade and Industry arranged for a workshop themed "Opportunities for raising capacities for the incentives for trade and investment in the selected African countries" which took place in the premises of the Ministry on 14th October 2008. The president of the Chamber presented our activitities and the workshop was moderated by our associate. Mr. M. Hovorka, the deputy of the minister of trade and industry, opened the workshop and greeted 15 ambassadors and their diplomatic deputies from 11 African countries having their embassies in Prague, Berlin and Vienna. The brisk discussion also attended to the on-coming Czech presidency of the EU starting 1st January 2009. The African diplomats have appreciated the effort of the Czech Republic in the field of development of bilateral relations with their countries instead of counting on the multilateral relations between EU and economical alliances of African countries. They would also appreciate that the Czech Republic had furthered priority economic relations with the African countries during its presidency. The first part of the workshop belonged to the presentations of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic, CzechTrade, CzechInvest, EGAP, Czech Chamber of Commerce and the Czech-Equatorial Guinea-Gabon-Senegal-Guinea Mixed Chamber of Commerce (Chamber of Commerce Czech-Subsaharan Africa). In the second part the participants heard presentations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Directorate General for Customs of the Ministry of Finance. All participant highly valued the workshop and expressed the need of organizing similar actions in the future.

Honorary consul of the Czech Republic in Mali visited the Chamber

On 1 October 2008 we had a pleasure to greet the honorary consul of the Czech Republic in Mali in our premises. We have met earlier in June 2008 during the regular meeting of the Czech honorary consuls organized yearly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The consul was accompanied by a member of the delegation of businessmen looking for opportunities to trade with the Czech Republic. The Mali businessman was interested in the food products, especially diary produce. Other members of the delegation are interested e.g. in import of second hand vehicles. We have also discussed the project of prospecting the construction materials deposits in Mali which should be realized within the frame of the Czech development aid. The consul have also delivered the list of national projects in Mali supported by government which will be published on our website shortly.

The workshop at the Ministry of Trade and Industry with the Namibian delegation

On 24.9.2008 the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Prague organized a workshop with the representatives of the Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the representatives of Namibian embassies in Berlin and Vienna. The workshop was lead by the deputy minister for trade and industry Mr. M. Hovorka and the deputy minister for environment and tourism of Namibia Mr. Leon Jooste. Our Chamber has informed about the extension of sphere of our activity to the entire Subsaharan territory and have agreed on the close cooperation with the Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry which should be soon confirmed by signing the Mutual Cooperation Agreement.

Participation in the working meeting in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic

The representatives of our Chamber were invited by the head of Department of the Bilateral Economic Relations to a meeting of representatives of the Czech mixed chambers of commerce which took place on 23.9.2008. This action of the Ministry means an extraordinary and important initiative in the field of cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce and the Ministry with the aim of applying economic diplomacy in practice. The proposed forms of cooperation would be e.g. participating in creating and complement the websites of the embassies and territorial information summaries, supporting the Department of the Bilateral Economic Relations with the organisation of the business missions etc. The Ministry counts on the mixed chambers as one of the pillars of the mutual cooperation next to the Czech professional associations and the Czech regions. The representatives of our Chamber have informed the participants of the meeting with the necessity of improving the situation regarding development of the economic and commercial relations with the countries of the West and Central Africa. One of the possibilities would be establishing the CzechTrade office in Dakar, which is the subject of our further negotiations.

Meeting with the businessmen from the West and Central African states

On 27.8.2008 the Chamber arranged for the meeting with the businessmen and citizens from the countries of the West and Central Africa living and working in the Czech Republic. This meeting was prepared in context of the work on the study "Intensification of the economic relations with the countries of West and Central Africa and improvement of the presentation of CR in these countries" and meant a lot of new highlights, topics and opinions of our African friends regarding the present state of the economical and commercial relations with the Czech Republic and recommendations for improvements. Many of our friends have pointed out the necessity of correction of the indefensible situation of non-existence of the embassy of the Czech Republic in any of the francophonic countries in the West and Central Africa. The disestablishment of the Czech embassy in Senegal in the time of escalation of its economic and political position, its stability and influence on whole francophonic West Africa was considered a big mistake. The participants of the meeting have also discussed the criminal activities of a well known counterfeiter from the West Africa operating in the Czech Republic, who's systematically preying the Czech businessmen in the West and Central Africa and thus deteriorates the reputation of reputable African businessmen and on whom the complaint was already filed.

Agreement on Cooperation between the Nigeria-Czech Business Council and the Chamber

During their stay in Prague, the Nigerian delegation of businessmen visited the seat of the Chamber at Staroměstské náměstí on 17 July 2008. They have discussed the details of mutual cooperation, the possibilities of investment of the Czech enterpreneurs in Nigeria and other technical terms and conditions of trade between both countries. The finale of the meeting was signing the Agreement on Cooperation between the Nigeria-Czech Business Council and the Chamber by the presidents of both institutions Ms. Jitka Čiháková and Mr. Obiora Nzekwu. Based on the signed Agreement, Mr. Obiora Nzekwu delivered the list of demands of several governments of Nigerian states, the Chamber will inform of soon.

Negotiations with the delegation of Nigerian businessmen

On 14 July 2008 the representatives of the Chamber headed by its president Ms. Jitka Čiháková took part in the meeting and seminar with the group of 12 Nigerian businessmen lead by the president of the Nigeria-Czech Business Council, Mr. Obiora Nzekwu.The meeting took place in the premises of the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic. The representatives of our Chamber have made the Nigerian and the Czech businessmen present acquainted with its activities, services offered and future activities. Within the scope of the seminar a number of bilateral discussions took place from which emerged the demands of Nigerian partners for organizing further negotiations with other Czech subjects. Such negotiations concerning e.g. transport services, projects supplies, facilities and training in the field of solar energy, farm machinery, telecommunications etc., were arranged by our Chamber during following 2 days to the satisfaction of Nigerian partners who have highly appreciated the operation of the specialists of the Chamber and their assistance. Some of the Nigerian businessmen have further visited their business partners in Prague and other parts of the Czech Republic for subsequent negotiations.

The executives of the Chamber have met the commercial counsellors and other diplomats of the Embassies of the Czech Republic with territorial scope for the countries of interest of the Chamber

On 26th June 2008 the executives of the Chamber negotiated with the commercial counsellors and other diplomats of the Embassies of the Czech Republic in Morocco (with territorial scope also for Senegal and Mauritania), in Ghana (with territorial scope for Ghana, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Liberia, Togo, Niger and Burkina Faso) and in Nigeria (with territorial scope for Nigeria, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Benin, Tchad and Cameroon) about mutual cooperation and some demands and suggestions of the diplomats of the Embassies that would be used for further action of the Chamber and activities of its members. The executives of the Chamber have not yet met the new commercial counsellor in Algeria with the territorial scope for Mali, but have discussed the same issues with him lately on the phone and sent him our presentation. We were also assured of forthcoming mutual cooperation.

Negotiations of the executives of the Chamber with the honorary consuls of the Czech Republic

The executives of the Chamber have taken advantage of visit and meetings of the major part of the honorary consuls of the Czech Republic with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Prague and on the 3rd June 2008 met the consuls of the Czech Republic in Guinea, Mali, Cameroon and Gambia. They have discussed the cooperation of the Chamber with the consuls and with the commercial and industrial chambers in their countries. Besides the consuls have informed us about new demands for various products and projects. The Chamber will acquaint its members and the Czech business public with these demands.

Round table in Berlin

On the 17th June 2008 our Chamber arranged for the discussion round table with the heads of Embassies of the number of West and Central African countries or their deputies, with the kind and effective cooperation of the Czech Embassy in Berlin in their premises. The venue was chosen with regard to more numerous representation of the countries of interest in Berlin than in Prague. 11 countries of sub-saharan Africa in the round table were represented by 16 representatives. H.E. Dr. Rudolf Jindrák, Ambassador of the Czech Republic and Ms Jitka Čiháková, President of the Chamber made the opening speeches. Present directors of departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Czech Republic have participated in further discussion. Suggestions, conclusions and recommendations of the round table will be the substantiality of the study "Intensification of the economic relations with the countries of West and Central Africa" which will be elaborated by the Chamber by the end of this year. The study is intended for the wide Czech expert and business public.

Meeting in Bamako

The President of the Chamber Ms. Ing. Jitka Čiháková and the vice-president of the Chamber Mr. JUDr. Zdeněk Kuneš met the chairmanship of the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Mali on May 18th 2008. They have discussed further cooperation on basis of the recently signed bilateral Protocol and have identified projects and sectors of further mutual focus. They have also met other Mali's subjects from the mining and business, and also the Czech honorary consul in Bamako and others. The representatives of the Chamber have visited Bamako as the members of the delegation accompanying the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Mr. Mirek Topolánek. The information media of Mali have informed in detail of these negotiations.

European Development Fund Workshop II

The representatives of the Chamber attended the second Workshop held by the Development Center of the Czech Republic themed "European Development Fund: Practical Recommendations for the Tender Participants". The Workshop took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic in the days of April 14-15, 2008. The information from this workshop will be of use to the Members of the Chamber and other interested Czech companies when acquiring resources for the realization of their development projects in the sub-Saharan countries from the EDF.

The "Intensification of the economic relations with the countries of West and Central Africa" Project

The Chamber has succeeded in the tender put up by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic within the frame of the program of the state grants policy for the projects in the field of the priorities of the foreign policy of CR and international relations in 2008. The Project's theme is "Intensification of the economic relations with the countries of West and Central Africa and improvement of the presentation of CR in these countries". In accordance with the conditions of the Project the Chamber will organize a round table with the representatives of the embassies of the sub-Saharan countries and will elaborate a study for all parties interested in doing business with the countries of West and Central Africa.

Agreements with partner organizations

After several months of negotiations the Chamber has signed Agreements and Protocols on Co-operation with some partner organizations in Senegal and in Mali during the first quarter of 2008. Signing these documents creates terms and conditions for the close co-operation of our Chamber with these countries. The negotiations about signing similar agreements and protocols continue with Guinea, Chad, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and other countries.

Official stay of the representative of our Chamber residing in Equatorial Guinea

In the beginning of March 2008 our representative for Equatorial Guinea arrived in the Czech Republic. He has met with the president of the Chamber Ms. Ing. J. Čiháková and with other executive staff and they have discussed the details of mutual cooperation. He has also attended meetings with the Heads of the Department of non-EU countries of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, with the Heads of the Department of Subsaharian Africa countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the Heads of the Association of Building Enterpreneurs of the Czech Republic and with several companies interested in the construction projects in Equatorial Guinea or in exporting to this country. Together with the cooperating Chambers of Commerce our Chamber is planning to arrange for the exhibition or workshop in Malabo (capital city of Equatorial Guinea) and in Bata (other important city) with the aim to inform local commercial and business community about the unused potential in mutual trade.

Ambassadoress of Ghana visiting the Chamber

The Ambassadores of Ghana H.E. Dr. Ing. Veronika Sharon Boakye Kufuor has visited our Chamber on 17th March 2008, acquainted herself with the working environment of the Chamber and discussed some particular demands from Ghana with the president of the Chamber Ms. Ing. J. Čiháková and with other executive staff. We are publishing these demands on our website in section "Business Opportunities". The representatives of the Chamber have further discussed with the Ambassadoress about her work in the Czech Republic and her effort to revive the traditional commercial relations between Ghana and former Czechoslovakia in the period after gaining independence of Ghana in the middle of the past century.

On 18th March 2008 the Chamber delegation lead by its president Ms. Ing. J. Čiháková visited the deputy headmaster of the section for defence, safety and foreign policy, Mr. Ing. R. Kopecký. The Chamber's representatives informed of their activities and plans for immediate future. Mr. Ing. Kopecký, who has recently terminated his secondment in the post of ambassador in Angola, was pleased to hear that the sphere of action of the Chamber is extending to other states of western and central Africa.
